danlan Uniform distribution is always symmetric
surob Didn't know the difference. Thanks
tschorsch uniform distributions must by definition be symmetric, but they are just one simple type of symmetric distribution.

simple examples
uniform: 1 2 3 4 5
symmetric: 1 2 2 3 3 3 4 4 5
loisliu88 what is an uniform distribution. can I find the definition in the textbook? thanks.
ThomasDess Discrete uniform distribution is a probability distribution whereby a finite number of equally spaced values are equally likely to be observed; every one of n values has equal probability 1/n. Another way of saying "discrete uniform distribution" would be "a known, finite number of equally spaced outcomes equally likely to happen."

cf. also Continuous uniform distribution is a family of probability distributions such that for each member of the family, all intervals of the same length on the distribution's support are equally probable. The support is defined by the two parameters, a and b, which are its minimum and maximum values. The distribution is often abbreviated U(a,b).

reprinted from wikipedia, didn't find the definition in the textbook
assiduous At the end of the study notes for this LOS it reads,
"When a distribution is 'normal', the dispersion to the left of the mean is the same as the dispersion to the right of the mean."
Just substitute 'uniform' for 'normal'.

Thanks again for your wonderful site ... it definitely made the difference.
