Hi, thanks for reading the thread: Well to start off with I'll introduce my background and the subsequent choice I'm considering. I am just finishing off my degree in Economics and Actuarial Science. I considered a switch into Law to let the banking/finance side of things settle down before trying to gain entry. Anyway, I've heard from all angles that the CFA is the holy grail. And, considering I thoroughly enjoy finance and the markets, seems the more logical choice, and cheaper option. If I do this, it means I will spend most of my time revising for this, save for a part time job etc. So my questions are: Does this seem like a good idea? Should my degree stand me in good stead? Roughly how much will it cost me, beginning to end? (Level 1 Exam). Many thanks, C. |

re Does this seem like a good idea? Should my degree stand me in good stead? Roughly how much will it cost me, beginning to end? The degree will help a bit but it's still a lot of work. It can be a good idea if you are going in to invetments as a career. The cfa fees are approx $800 for each part. You can spend extra on top if you like eg analystnotes ($69+) but you don't have to. |

I am planning this journey and I work for a IT company with a science background!!!. There are many forums/answers/posts on why, will it help, does it make sense, etc etc etc...Hell with those. I am a kind of person who believes that if you have passion for subject/area...go for it and what better do you have to test your knowledge than to get certified. As you said CFA is the HOLY GRAIL. Things will work out..who knows what "Beyond the Obvious". Hope this helps. |

You'll be in good standing with your economics degree for level I. The problem with December exams is that its very very difficult to pass level II in the following June (level II and III can only be taken in june). In my opinion, its more difficult to pass and you'll have less study time. |

I am using your study notes and I know of at least 5 other friends of mine who used it and passed the exam last Dec. Keep up your great work!
