I'v got a scholarship for a PhD program risk management and am preparing for CFA L1 right now. Is it necessary to get a CFA or a good plus? Any advice would be appreciated. |

If you are planning to seek a tenure position at the university level, you will probably need a doctorate. In search of instructors with practical knowledge, however, a lot of schools are now looking closely at Ph.D.s or others with a CFA charter to teach their investments classes. The combination of a Ph.D. and a CFA charter is very valuable in distinguishing you from the masses of new Ph.Ds, also. Bottom line, since the Ph.D. is so theoretical and the CFA charter so applied, I would say to get both, especially in light of the recent spate of corporate malfeasance. |
