Guys,
I'm in pretty much same situation like Cindy who started the Thread "How to foot in the industry".

Okay here I'm.... having a bachelor in Finance from South Asian University and MBA from USA..... Started my career with a leading insurance company almost 2 years as a Financial Service Rep. It's basically a sales job, selling insurance. Honestly speaking, I really don't enjoy selling. I believe I'm good at analytical side. Just like most of you guys, I set for level 1 and living in NY.

Please advice me, without any direct experience how can I start my career in a Mutual Fund or Pension Fund Mgt Co. In fact, I applied my my insurance company's Investment dept. several times but they always turn down coz my lack of experience. Tell me how should I search my dream job. At present moment, I really don't care for salary, all I care is my experience.

Thanx
Dakini

To be quite frank, in the present market, there are just too many experienced people looking for jobs. Life will be hard for you right now.

1. Either wait for a while till financial markets heat up again, or,

2. Look around for any "graduate programs" or "traineeships" that are still open. I'm not sure about the US, but they are common here in Europe.

3. The best way: get an internship. Doesn't really matter where, and whether it's paid or unpaid. It will get you the minimum experience you need. If you do well enough in the intern program, the same firm might hire you as an analyst.

4. If you have the money/a scholarship: go and do a graduate program in finance. That will allow you to pass your time effectively for the next year or so, and by Q3 of next year, you will have had an internship or a masters thesis via your university (=experience). You will also gain exposure to companies during on-campus recruitment. Once again, one-year masters programs are common in Europe and I am not sure about the US. Sorry about that.

Good Luck!
