Say I get 75% overall, but only get 49% on ethics, is that still considered a fail? |

Someone told me that passing ethics is required, but I can't find it anywhere in writing. IOW, you can get 100% on the remainder, but fail the overall test if you fail ethics. I'd be interested in this myself, as I thought they played some games with the ethics questions on the exam. Must be tough rewriting the same questions every year.

Ethics scores will come handy in case you have borderline overall score. Passing ethics is not a prequeste but higher score can help you. |

it doesn't matter if you fail ethics on level one. all questions are worth the same amount of points. it only matters on level 2 and 3. fu |

Thank you, appreciate the feedback... |

I called CFa Institute on this one several weeks ago. They said it's a rumour that you have to pass Ethics to pass the exam. |

Hi Jay2009, for me it does matter... Repeatedly fail ethics L1, L2. Passed L1, L2. Trying L3. No desire learn this bullshit. What about my chance? |
giroth @2013-12-18 14:19:58 |
I was very borderline on L2, and for some reason my ethics was very low, and they failed me. I think the ethics is definitely the most subjective and least well written part of the test. -- Grouchy old timer. |

I went to a CFA sponsored presentation with the head CFA guy for their United States operations, and he told all of us at the event that if you are borderline on the pass/fail line, you will then be judged on ethics. Do good on them, and they will bump you up (even if you are barely failing). But do bad on them, and they will fail you (even if you are barely passing otherwise.) Just wanted to let everyone know what I was told! |

No need to contact "head CFA guy for their United States operations", this mantra is available at the site. Any constructive suggestion? |

Study ethics until you know them. That's my "constructive suggestion." |

I am happy to say that I passed! Your study notes certainly helped prepare me for what was the most difficult exam I had ever taken.
