I am currently working as an IT specialist but intend seating in for CFA Level 1 exam. I'm willing to work hard, the question is, is it advisable for someone with my background to venture into the Finance via CFA? From looking at the study material it seems like a lot of work, but it is interesting and am very keen to take exam...Advice please! |

I don't know your entire situation but I was an Accountant for number of years, moved into financial systems and became and application developer (SQL/PL SQL/VB/UNIX) and now I am back on the business side of things as a business analyst focusing on interest rate and revenue models. I make use of my IT background everyday whether it is interacting with our Business Intelligence Group or writing my own programs for my models, my IT background has served me well. I would say if you are more on the programming side of IT the CFA could be very beneficial and a move into finance is possible, if your on the hardware side of technology a move into finance would probably be harder . I am sitting for L1 in June. I hope that gives you some guidance. |
