Hi, I have not started anything for the CFA, will be away from home all February and work full time in a finance position at an insurance company. I would want some honest advice from you guys: Does it make sense to try to pass the Level I June 2016 exam? Is the study amount really that much? How many hours would I need to spend per week? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

I'm no expert on the CFA Exam by all means but it appears as if unless you're quite knowledgeable on accounting, finance, etc. then 4 months wouldn't be enough to pass Level 1. This doesn't apply to everyone but from the feedback I've received from others regarding how difficult the material is to absorb, I would wait until December -- I want to take the test in June as well BUT at this point in time, it looks like I will be sitting for the December. You need to hedge your chances of passing. My 2 cents. Cheers! |

Time is all relative, figure on spending 200-250 hrs preparing. I wrote level one in Dec 2012 and put in about 200 hrs. That being said I had seen most of the material before in my undergrad. If you are a quick study or have some background you should be able to do it no problem, provided you can free upabout 15 hours a week to prepare. If not, hold off. Good luck |

I took level I in Dec 2015 and didn't pass it. I want to take it again. I studied using the schweser notes. Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations for me? Is there anything else I can do to pass it this time ? Thanks. Swetha |

theBooty - did the 200-250 hrs include your review time? What was your approach? I have a finance/economics background, worked both in banking and brokerage and was in a top corporate finance analyst training program years ago, but that said, I feel pretty familiar with the topics and terminology, just need to push through the material and practice problems I guess and hoping that 200-250 hours includes your review time. Try to focus on key concepts and LOS. Cover the questions given in the back of each topic area. If you do it well, that should get you through the exam. |
