After reading so many comments on this site, i decided to study for the CFA exam like this;
(1) Read all the required textbooks along with the LOS. (2) Do the problems at the end of each chapter in the Textbooks (3) Read the notes of cfacenter I just printed. (4) Do the questions (basic and review together). (5) Do the mock questions when they are released before the exam. Any comments on how to prepare for the exam will also be helpful. |

You will flunk with this strategy. Do not buy the books. Just read the notes here and do lots and lots of questions and you will pass.:-! |

It's no secret that AIMR is gearing the tests more and more towards texts (including their own), i.e., the exams seem to eke out those bits and pieces that the study-guide providers overlooked (can you say "fade rate?"). Study guides aim to provide a broad overview with some depth in statistically significant areas; AIMR is under no constraints, and can pick that lil side note from the bottom of Appendix E, if they so choose....
I think your strategy is a good one - texts, home-made notes, supplemented with cfacenter's notes and all types of questions...I had the same strategy and did well in the exam. Good luck! |

I started the first week in January, and probably put in 15-20 hours a week (more in the last few weeks of May). Yes, I do have a full-time job, but earning this designation takes some commitment. I played a lot less golf than in year's past, and usually only watched the 8th and 9th innings of DBacks games, instead of the whole thing.
Some sacrifice is required. |

I just wanted to share the good news that I passed CFA Level I!!! Thank you for your help - I think the online question bank helped cut the clutter and made a positive difference.
